Happy Valentine’s Day! Let’s join during this season of love and spread some love around with “compassion in action”, helping out the folks who are in need. Please join with us and give to the North Texas Food Bank and the Austin Center! According to a recent news article on News Break, “The difficult reality is that food price increases tend to affect lower-income families and communities the most where many are already spending 50% or more of their income on food alone. When food starts to become scarce or unaffordable, it can prompt political and social unrest as we witnessed in Egypt and Lybia during the 2011 global food price increases.” So in effect, we may be helping the greater good in many ways by sharing food. The next pickup will be on Valentine’s Day, this Monday. The items below are the needs for both centers, and of course, you can always follow your inspiration with the Austin Street folks.
North Texas Food Bank: All NON-perishables (PLEASE NO MEAT), including nuts, seeds, cereal, grains, beans, canned goods, boxed non-dairy milk, canned vegetables, whole meals in packages, protein powder, anything you would enjoy eating (they get plenty of sweets), nut butters, crackers, tuna, etc.
Austin Street Center for the houseless folks: (other things that are helpful are nearly new clothes (please no stains or tear), nearly new shoes, shower sandals, socks, NO CHILDREN’s clothes, WORKING phones or pads with chargers that you no longer need, seasonal winter wear like coats, hats, gloves, etc)
Bottled Water
Disposable Razors
Sanitizing Wipes (must contain 60% alcohol)
Frozen breakfast foods
Body wash/Bar soap
Shampoo (particularly for ethnic hair)
Depends (pull ups only)
New, queen size air mattresses
Hairbrushes
Reading glasses (all strengths)
New men’s belts
Sweatshirts and hoodies
New, L-4XL underwear for men and women
Jeans (Men & Women’s new/gently used)
Shoes (for men and women), preferably tennis shoes
Shower shoes
New, large bras
Blankets
