September 26th was Lahiri Mahasaya’s Mahasamadhi Day—the day he left his body and completed his mission on this earthly plane. Yet, the example he set and the beautiful seeds he planted in souls continue to live on in the hearts of every devotee following the path of Kriya Yoga.
As many of you know, Lahiri Mahasaya was charged by the great Master Babaji to bring the knowledge of Kriya Yoga into the modern age and ultimately to the West. It was, of course, Paramahansa Yogananda who became the lightbearer of this sacred lineage and brought it to America. But it was Lahiri Mahasaya who first set the example of the consummate householder—one who could live a life fully dedicated to God while faithfully carrying out his worldly duties as both a father and a breadwinner.
His story is beautifully told in Autobiography of a Yogi. Remarkably, he didn’t even start his family until after his reawakened enlightenment! That is truly inspiring for any aspiring yogi. His message was clear: You don’t have to renounce the world—you simply need to keep God as your polestar. Through a balanced life of service, and through the practice of Kriya Yoga, you can find the fuel for your spiritual evolution, even amidst all karmic challenges.
In today’s fast-paced and complex world, it can feel increasingly difficult for families to stay centered. These unstable times add stress and often reinforce the ego’s desire to control circumstances—frequently at the expense of our deeper spiritual aspirations.
That is why, here at Ananda Texas, we are rekindling our family energy by gathering together and offering support to one another. Beginning this Sunday afternoon, we will host a monthly Family Satsang for all parents and children of all ages. This gathering will help us connect, share, and build a vision for this beautiful project.
Together, we’ll explore:
- What each family needs
- The unique qualities of our children and parents
- How we can support one another in bringing spirituality into our homes
Our intention is to create a community where children can grow in joy and awareness, and where parents feel supported, guided, and uplifted.
It’s Parenting as a Spiritual Path to Liberation, just as Lahiri Mahasaya exemplified.
Come join us in this sacred exploration—for the sake of our children’s future, and for our own spiritual growth as parents in these challenging times.
Together as One Family in God,
Ananda in Texas
