After a long-standing interest in meditation, yoga, and community, Atman and Bhaktimarg Goering found the Ananda Village community in 1990 and have lived there permanently since 1992. During their decades at Ananda, Atman first served at Ananda’s retreats, including managing both the Meditation Retreat and the Expanding Light Retreat. For over 20 years, he served as village manager, overseeing the planning, development, and management of the Ananda community. Atman spearheaded the multi-year effort to update Ananda’s Master Plan. Approved by Nevada County in 2017, the plan will guide Ananda Village’s growth for the next 25 years. In recent years, in addition to continuing to help manage various aspects of Ananda Village, Atman has supported the Living Discipleship program and the Chandi program for new members, and has visited and taught at Ananda groups in the U.S., Europe, and India.
Bhaktimarg has served at both Ananda Retreats, as well as supporting members at Ananda Village. She was a founding member of the Center for Radiant Health at Ananda Village, where she worked as a massage practitioner for many years. For the last 15 years, Bhaktimarg has headed Ananda Sangha’s Spanish-language ministry, which offers inspiration, training, and retreats in Spanish, both online and around the world.
They have one son, Mark, who was born and raised at Ananda Village. After attending Ananda’s Living Wisdom Schools, Mark graduated from UC Davis. He currently works for the Forest Service in fire suppression and fuels management in south-central Oregon.
